General Information about Çukurova University
("Çukurova" is pronounced as chookoorova)
Cukurova University is one of the fundamental universities in Turkey being founded in 1967 with the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture. Cukurova means "low plain" and is a main centre for agriculture with its larger than 500 000 hectares of area devoted to agriculture, hence it is the economic locomotive in the area.

The largest and the most developed province in Cukurova is Adana province -the forth province in Turkey also-. It is located between northern latitudes 35 and 38 , and eastern longitudes 34 and 36 and covers an area of km2 14 030, at an altitude of 23 meters above the sea-level, in the southern part of Turkey, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, with an inhabitant population of approximately 2 millions. |

The faculty has a centre for research and application funded by the faculty itself, multidisciplinary labs, an emergency service and first aid, a pharmacy, a blood centre, a modern and fully equipped central operating theatre, and central laboratories. |
The climate is typically Mediterranean with mild and wet winter and hot and dry summer periods. The mean annual temperature is reported as 18.7 C (with 9 C in January and 28 C in August), with an annual mean relative humidity of 62% and an annual precipitation of cm 64.7. Two rivers Seyhan and Ceyhan cross the zone with a water potential of 15.2 billion m3, and fill the Seyhan and Aslantas dam lakes. |

The hospital of the Faculty of Medicine, with its 1200 beds, and equipped with the latest technological equipment, provides a high standard medical service for people mostly from southern and south-eastern regions of Turkey. Services in all units such as laboratories, pharmacy, blood centre, patient admission rooms, and accounting are all given through computers. The hospital has study halls, a library, a conference hall (for up to 200 people), a canteen, and a cafeteria which caters for all academic and administrative staff as well as for students. |
